After 8 months of conversation—including a review of the draft document, the Call to Action for OurWinnipeg: Visions & Directions for the OurWinnipeg Plan has been released.
With SpeakUpWinnipeg, the City of Winnipeg has committed to a major, open and comprehensive dialogue with citizens about our plan for the future. After 8 months of conversation involving more than 34,000 people, the Call to Action for OurWinnipeg: Vision & Directions for the OurWinnipeg Plan has been released. It is based on community priorities and includes the 15 directions fhat support the vision of OurWinnipeg and 76 steps the City will take in the next 24 months.
It’s our city, it’s our plan and it’s our time– Speak Up Winnipeg!

On April 25th, 2009, the Mayor and the City committed to creating a more sustainable Winnipeg. This commitment means supporting and celebrating three interdependent pillars: environmental, economic and social sustainability. It means building stronger connections and deeper engagements with the larger regional, national and global community. It's a commitment to a vibrant, welcoming city with rivers flowing through it and northward, with railways and other transportation systems bringing people and goods from everywhere. It’s a commitment to meeting our present needs while making sure that future Winnipeggers can continue to meet theirs.

SpeakUpWinnipeg is a groundbreaking initiative. No other city has involved the entire community right from the start as part of a long-term planning project. We’ve sought discussion and common ground about what direction the city should take, and that’s what SpeakUpWinnipeg is really about. It’s a year long conversation about our future as a city and an opportunity for everyone to share thoughts, experience and advice.

Cities need to offer a safe environment in order to be sustainable and livable, and a city’s quality of life depends in many ways on safety and security. People can only participate fully in social and economic life when they and their families feel safe– able to work without injury, travel and use public spaces without fear and peacefully resolve conflicts...
